Description
The ARRI Alexa 35 Xtreme is essentially the same camera as the standard Alexa 35 — same Super 35 ALEV 4 sensor, same body, controls, mount, and accessories — but with upgraded internal hardware (new processor, electronics, and more efficient cooling) that dramatically boosts high-speed performance: in 4K Open Gate the standard Alexa 35 tops out at 75 fps, while the Xtreme reaches 120 fps without compromising dynamic range, and with Sensor Overdrive enabled it can hit up to 165 fps in 4.6K Open Gate, while top slow-motion speed reaches 660 fps in 2K 16:9 S16 sensor mode using the new ARRICORE codec with Sensor Overdrive. On top of that, the Xtreme can pre-record five times longer and uses 10% less power than the standard Alexa 35, and owners of an existing Alexa 35 can have it upgraded to Xtreme at ARRI service centers. So the choice really comes down to how much you actually need that high-speed capability, since in “normal” everyday use both cameras deliver the same image quality and color science.
