Description

The ARRI Ultra Prime series is a well-regarded set of cine lenses known for their high optical quality, durability, and consistent performance.

The Ultra Primes provide a compact, lightweight, optically matched complement to the higher-speed ARRI Master Prime series. Compatible with HD and film cameras, the Ultra Primes are color-matched to each other and the rest of the ARRI lens spectrum.

This lens series covers a wide range of focal lengths, spanning from 14mm to 135mm, providing diverse creative possibilities for both photography and cinematography. With its comprehensive coverage, it offers ultra-wide angles to short telephoto lenses, suitable for capturing landscapes, architectural details, portraits, and various scenes with different perspectives and compositions. The series grants flexibility and versatility, enabling photographers and filmmakers to choose the ideal focal length that suits their creative vision and shooting requirements.

The Ultra Primes provide the optimal image quality, vivid colors, and skin tones for which ARRI/Zeiss is known. Each lens in the series features a T* XP coating for reduced glare and minimized reflections. The Ultra Prime 14mm has a minimum close focus of 8.7″. The lenses’ fast, maximum aperture of T1.9 enables shallow depth-of-field shots. Minimal focus breathing does not draw attention to focus pulls, preserving the viewer’s cinematic experience.

The ARRI Ultra Prime Key Features:

  • Covers Super-35mm format maintains high contrast and resolution even at close focus

  • Optically-matched prime lens complements the high-speed Master Prime series; Ultra Primes are color-matched to each other and the rest of the ARRI lens spectrum.

  • T* XP multi-layer anti-reflex coating reduces flares and internal reflections

  • Lightweight, rugged, compact design with a maximum aperture of T1.9

  • Minimal chromatic aberration and breathing

Each focal length has its specific advantages and best use cases:

  • Ultra-Wide (12mm, 14mm, 16mm): Ideal for expansive landscape shots, architectural photography, or scenes where you must capture a large field of view.
  • Wide to Normal (20mm, 24mm, 28mm, 32mm): Great for environmental portraits, street photography, and scenarios where you want a more comprehensive perspective without extreme distortion.
  • Standard (40mm, 50mm): These lenses are often considered ‘standard’ and offer a perspective close to what the human eye naturally perceives, suitable for various scenarios from portraits to everyday photography.
  • Short Telephoto to Medium Telephoto (65mm, 85mm, 100mm, 135mm): Useful for portrait photography, isolating subjects from the background and providing flattering perspectives for people and objects.

The Ultra Prime 14mm lens barrel is marked in feet and has focus markings on both sides, enabling the focus puller to efficiently work the side of the lens best suited for each setup. Its industry-standard 0.8 Mod focus and iris gears interface with manual follow focus units and wireless lens control motors. All 15 lenses in the Ultra Prime series share common focus and iris gear positions, making for fast lens swaps with no need to reposition lens accessories. While most Ultra Primes share a 95mm front barrel diameter, the wide-angle 14mm has a 114mm front.

Each lens in this range will offer its specific creative potential, whether it’s the ultra-wide drama, the natural perspective of a standard lens, or the intimate, compressed view of a telephoto lens.
